USOC considering ten cities for 2024 Games

USOC Chief Executive Scott Blackmun told the Associated Press that the committee is considering ten cities for America’s 2024 Olympic bid, including a joint bid between San Diego and Tijuana.

“That would have its challenges, Blackmun said about the unprecedented bid. “We haven’t looked at it carefully. We just learned about it.”

The only two other bids specifically mentioned by Blackmun were Los Angles and Philadelphia, which both made their plans official in the last month. Tulsa, Dallas, San Francisco, and Boston are also likely under strong consideration.

“The process is really working the way it was supposed to…” he added. “We’ve got plenty of time. There are no specific deadlines on this process.”

The USOC, which hasn’t hosted an Olympics since the 2002 Salt Lake City Games and hasn’t hosted a Summer event since 1996, doesn’t really have to decide which city to go with until the bidding process starts in 2017, when the USOC is expected to go against Paris, Berlin, Rome, Toronto, and Dubai.
