USOC chairman ‘more optimistic than ever’ about 2024 U.S. bid

A U.S. bid for the 2024 Olympics looks more viable after representatives from the four finalist cities met with the U.S. Olympic Committee this week.

Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Washington, D.C., are the finalists for a potential bid. The USOC isn’t expected to decide if it will actually bid until after an International Olympic Committee session in December.

“There is a great deal of work left to do before we can make a decision, but I’m more optimistic than ever that a U.S. bid for the 2024 Games can be successful,” USOC Chairman Larry Probst said.

The U.S. hasn’t hosted a Summer Olympics since Atlanta 1996 (its last Winter Games were Salt Lake City 2002). Paris, Rome and a South African city, among others, have been discussed as potential bids, too.

The IOC will vote on the 2024 host city in 2017.
