Joining Rafa Nadal and Roger Federer and the Williams sisters and maybe all of tennis, American gold medalists and 12 time doubles Grand Slam twins Mike and Bob Bryan added their names to the list of stars who will likely end their careers in Rio.
“I think that’s where we see the finish line,” Mike Bryan, who I’m told is the dreamy twin, told the AP. “We’ll be 38. We’d like to maybe go out at that spot. And then we’ll sail off into the sunset.”
“Maybe just stay in Rio for the rest of our lives,” added the homely-looking Bob. “Check into a motel on the beach and drink some margaritas.”
The Brothers are in the semis down under aiming for their sixth Australian Open and thirteenth career Grand Slam, and will square off against Simone Bolelli and Fabio Fognini Thursday for a spot in the finals.
Of course, another three-and-change years means another fourteen chances to bring home Grand Slams.
“It’s still fun. We create goals and new challenges each time we step out of the house in January.” Mike, noticeably glowing, said. “The goal is to finish No. 1. That’s it. That’s really what we play for.”
