Vancouver figure skating champ Evan Lysacek missed out on competing at nationals in Omaha this weekend, but says he’s fully recovered from a November 20 surgery to repair a torn abdominal muscle and says he’ll be ready for Sochi.
“I’m glad to be here — with mixed emotions, of course,” Lysacek, resigned to the role of spectator, told the AP. “I wish so badly I was on the ice. I miss this. This is what I love about skating: competitive skating and the competitive atmosphere.”
Lysacek says he’s already performing triple jumps and will aim to become the first man since American Dick Button in 1952 to win back-to-back singles championships at the Olympics.
