Canada takes down Switzerland 13-0

After scraping by the US, 3-2, in a shootout Tuesday, the Canadian women’s hockey team completely dismantled Switzerland 13-0 Wednesday, as Canada took advantage of the Ottawa home ice, outshooting its opponent 79-16.

Marie-Philip Poulin led the team with a record four goals in Wednesday’s rout, and tossed in an assist for good measure. All told, nine players scored against Swiss goalie Sophie Anthamatten, who won her team’s player of the night award because, to be fair, she still stopped 66 shots.

Canada has outscored the Swiss 50-0 in their last five meetings, but still needs to beat the 2010 bronze medalists from Finland on Friday if they want to advance out of the group
stage, or simply hope the Swiss somehow beat Team USA.
