We’re not sure why a German company is willing to help design a new sleek, lightweight, aerodynamic bobsled for the U.S. Olympic team as opposed to, say, the Germans, but we’re also not complaining.

Creative director Michael Scully and his team at DesignworksUSA, owned by BMW, are building six sleds for the U.S. men’s and women’s Olympic teams for Sochi that are designed to emphasize weight reduction and “intelligent use of weight when you have that weight to use” through optimized materials.

“I think everybody was just extremely excited by the chance to not just have a sticker on the sled anymore,” Scully told CNN Money. “It would be really an integral, technical partnership.”

Of course, all the technical jargon in the world means nothing if the team doesn’t win gold.
