Thank you, President Jacques Rogge.
That’s the title of a tribute video to the outgoing International Olympic Committee president played at the closing of the IOC session in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Tuesday.
Rogge’s 12 years as president were up Tuesday. German Thomas Bach won a landslide vote to become the ninth IOC president.
Rogge, a three-time Olympic sailor from Belgium, left these final words as IOC president, according to The Associated Press:
“Have a safe journey home, See you, as far as I’m concerned, in Sochi. Good luck. Thank you.”
The video below includes well wishes from the likes of Olympic champions Seb Coe, Cathy Freeman and Chad le Clos. The best line came from 2000 Olympic triple jump champion Jonathan Edwards.
“Jacques, one thing’s for sure that you’re going to be a hard act to follow for whoever the next president is, but I think the area perhaps they will have the most trouble is emulating your envelope opening skills,” he said.
