The USA-2 women’s bobsled has been wrapped with a sponsor logo for Putinka Vodka for the upcoming World Cup season.
Not only will pilot Jamie Greubel take runs in a sled adorned with the Russian liquor, but the team’s jackets also have Putinka Vodka logos on them. The sponsorship was first reported in January.
It’s interesting given a recent Russian law banning within the country, “advertising alcohol anywhere other than at the point of sales, such as in stores, restaurants and bars,” according to Russia Beyond The Headlines.
“We didn’t even think about placing our commercials and advertisements during football matches,” ad agency official Stanislav Kaufman told the website. “We wanted to make our brand’s advertisement bright and unique — that’s why we decided to chose a bobsled.”
Of course, the wrap will come off for the Olympics, which does not allow such advertising.
U.S. bobsledders are currently in Sochi training. The start of the World Cup season in Calgary, Alberta, is Nov. 30.
