Toronto mayor Rob Ford would not want the city to bid for the 2024 Olympics if it was his decision and if he had to make it now.

“I’m a little skeptical about putting in a million dollars after I saw our failure for our last Olympic bid,” Ford said Tuesday, referencing Toronto’s distant second place to Beijing in the 2008 voting. “If you’re asking me right now today, I’d say no. Let’s see how the Pan Am Games go, and we’ll take it from there.”

Toronto will host the 2015 Pan American Games. Bidding for the 2024 Olympics will officially begin in 2015.

Ford, 44, seeks re-election in October, so he might not be around to have much of a say if Toronto does enter the bidding.

A former IOC member and Toronto 1996 bid chief has said Toronto would be better off bidding for 2028 than 2024.
