An injury prompted Lindsey Vonn to make the difficult decision to pull out of Sochi, so she can probably relate to Shaun White’s call to withdraw from snowboarding slopestyle. She backed him up in an interview with TODAY.
“I see that he definitely wants to be prepared for the halfpipe. If that’s where he thinks that he can win the gold medal, that’s a smart choice,” Vonn said. “But obviously he’s going to be disappointed to not be in the first slopestyle event that was ever in the Olympics.”
Vonn, 29, backed up other skiers in pumping up the credentials of Sochi’s slopestyle course for her own sport, deeming it “absolutely perfect.”
Vonn is a correspondent for NBC’s Olympic coverage in Sochi. She plans on competing in Pyeongchang in 2018.
