Sweden’s Henrik Sedin out of Olympics

Another major hockey star has been ruled out of the Sochi Olympics, and this time, it’s Vancouver Canucks captain and Swedish national team member Henrik Sedin.

Prior to Sedin’s confirmation that he would not suit up for Sweden in the Olympics, the Canucks had announced that he would be shut down for the last two games before the NHL went into its Olympic break.

Sedin has been dealing with a rib ailment that had kept him out of a recent string of games.

Sochi was to be Sedin’s third run at the Olympics, after helping the Swedes claim the gold medal at Torino in 2006 and a fifth-place finish at Vancouver in 2010.
