U.S. figure skater Ashley Wagner didn’t have a great run-through for her still-new free program on Thursday. She didn’t deny her struggles to NBC’s Nick McCarvel, either.
“I’m still in training mode,” Wagner said. [I’m] working out the kinks.”
The 22-year-old had a messy “breakup” with her “Juliet” routine after a rough showing at the U.S. Championships in early January, prompting her to boldly switch to a “Simon and Delilah” program with precious little time before the 2014 Olympics.
It’s a high-risk, potentially high-reward decision that might lend itself to tough days like these. As Wagner notes in this story, she thinks that it’s worth it.
