The first bit of Russian Olympic hockey takes place on Sunday, but it won’t involve Alex Ovechkin. The women’s team opens up its schedule against Germany, which begins at 8 a.m. ET.

The Russian team came in sixth in the last two Olympics, but they could be an interesting team to watch. They’ll have plenty of home-ice advantage and have more management muscle behind them, as former NHL star Alexei Yashin is the team’s general manager.

Can they become a contender for a bronze? We’ll begin to see if that’s too big of a leap beginning today against Germany.
