The men’s alpine skiing slalom field may be without one of its favorites next week.
German slalom specialist Felix Neureuther is being examed for whiplash following a car accident on Friday, Reuters reported. Neureuther, 29, was on his way to the airport to travel to Sochi but an icy road was an issue.
He is being examined to see if he can complete next week. The men’s giant slalom starts on Wednesday.
“He hit the crash barrier on a slippery, snowy road,” Ralph Eder told Reuters, adding that Neureuther was able to continue driving after the accident.
“His doctor is examining him now for whiplash.”
Neureuther won a World Cup giant slalom and two slaloms last month, including the prestigious Kitzbuehel slalom.
