Men’s 1000m
If there’s any chance for the U.S. to take a short track medal on Saturday, it’s expected to come in this event. J.R. Celski has the best chance while Chris Creveling and Eduardo Alvarez are also in the quarterfinals.
They’ll face plenty of challengers, including South Korea’s best (Sin Da Woon and Lee Han-Bin), Canada’s Charle Cournoyer and Charles Hamelin along with Russia’s Viktor Ahn.
Women’s 1500m
The U.S. hopes aren’t as strong in this event as they are in the men’s 1000m, as Emily Scott and Jessica Smith remain heavy underdogs.
South Korea’s Shim Suk-Hee and Kim A-Lang are among the top contenders along with Canada’s Valerie Maltais.
