Lindsey Jacobellis hoped for redemption in women’s snowboard cross on Sunday, but instead experienced another heartbreaking disappointment. After generating a substantial lead in the semifinals, Jacobellis crashed out and didn’t even make the final round.
Instead, it was the Czech Republic’s Eva Samkova who blazed ahead to a gold medal. She was followed by Canada’s Dominique Maltais and France’s Chloe Trespeuch for the silver and bronze respectively.
U.S. snowboarder Faye Gulini came in right behind Trespeuch for fourth place.
The Olympics have been a time of significant disappointment for Jacobellis. She leaves her third Olympics with a single medal (silver in 2006), which even carries its own regrets as she could have landed gold that year.
It’s anyone’s guess if she’ll get another chance at Olympic gold.
