Sweden upset Finland to get to this point, but that’s not the underdog moment the U.S. should ponder. Back in 2006, they beat the U.S. 3-2 via a shootout before losing to Canada to grab silver, the only time in women’s Olympic hockey in which Canada and the U.S. didn’t finish in the top two.
This will be the third consecutive Olympic semifinal game between Sweden and the U.S., with the United States avenging the 2006 shocker with a 9-1 win in 2010. We’ll see who wins the “rubber match” today.
