There will be a bit of Olympic spirit at this year’s Indianapolis 500, as U.S. figure skating star Gracie Gold will take part in various programs in Indy leading up to “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing” on May 25.
The 500 Festival group, which handles all of the major support events that surround the world’s greatest race, reached out to the 18-year-old Olympian about attending parts of the Month of May and she agreed.
“We lucked out a little bit,” 500 Festival communications manager Megan Bulla told The Indianapolis Star.

Per the IndyStar, Gold has been invited to be a VIP participant in the IPL 500 Festival Parade (the signature pre-race event for the “500”) on the afternoon of May 24, and to walk the red carpet later that night at the formal “Snakepit Ball” gala.
The next day, she’ll walk another red carpet before the start of the race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, a to-do that always features many celebrities.
NBCSN will begin its 2014 IndyCar coverage on Sunday, Apr. 13 with the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, and will also be part of the Indy 500 action with Carb Day coverage from the Speedway on May 23.
