Russian president Vladimir Putin will attend the Sochi Paralympic Opening Ceremony, he said Wednesday.

The Opening Ceremony is Friday at 11 a.m. ET and will be broadcast live on NBCSN (full Paralympic broadcast schedule).

Putin also said he would try to attend skiing and sledge hockey, according to RIA Novosti.

“You know, when Paralympians ski it’s amazing [to watch], it’s some sort of performance art,” Putin said during an interview with Russian TV, according to the report.

U.S. and Great Britain government officials have said they will not send delegations to the Paralympics, citing the Russia-Ukraine situation.
