The U.S.’ eight-game winning streak in sledge hockey at the Paralympics was snapped via a 2-1 loss to host Russia on Tuesday.
The Americans dropped a sledge hockey game at the Paralympics for the first time since the 2006 semifinals. Russia scored once each in the first two periods. Though Adam Page sliced the deficit in half in the third, the U.S. couldn’t capitalize again.
The U.S. still advanced straight to the semifinals, where it could face Canada on Thursday in a rematch of the 2013 World Championships final won by Canada.
The U.S. wheelchair curling team beat Finland 7-6 on Tuesday, improving to 2-4.
Russia excelled in six biathlon medal events, winning 10 medals, including four golds and sweeping the podium in the men’s 12.5km sitting.
The U.S. won no medals Tuesday, but Danelle Umstead and Stephanie Jallen were in third place in respective super combined events after the slalom portion. The super-G runs to finish the event are Friday.
Russia leads the medal table with 34 medals and 11 golds. Ukraine and Germany are in second place with 11 medals and four golds, respectively. The U.S. has seven medals and no golds.
