The president of Municipal Olympic Company, an organization at the front of preparing Rio for the 2016 Olympics, plans to step down next month.
Maria Silvia Bastos Marques is resigning but will remain an informal advisor to Rio Mayor Eduardo Paes, according to Reuters.
Marques’ reason for leaving was not specified, according to the report. It comes on the heels of a visit from the International Olympic Committee’s coordination commission.
On March 21, the IOC issued a press release saying “every second counts” in preparation for the Olympics and mentioning a “necessary sense of urgency shared by all,” citing progress in constructing venues.
Reuters reported that local organizers missed a deadline last week to unveil a budget.
