Shots fired as striking Rio Olympic workers clash with security

The Rio Olympic construction strike was still going Monday, with random gunshots fired as workers on strike and security confronted each other at the Olympic Park, according to The Associated Press.

More than 2,000 workers went on strike Thursday, two weeks after the International Olympic Committee mentioned a “necessary sense of urgency” in delayed preparations for the 2016 Olympics.

The strike is about union representation, benefits and working conditions, according to the AP.

There were no reports of injuries in Monday’s clash, and both the consortium building the Olympic venues and the Rio Olympic Organizing Committee said they were investigating, according to the AP.
