Rob Ford has the support of disgraced Olympic sprinter Ben Johnson in his bid for re-election as Toronto mayor this October.

The embattled Ford introduced Johnson, who was stripped of 1988 Olympic 100m gold for doping, at an impromptu press conference in Toronto on Tuesday.

Johnson said two words, “full support,” before Ford explained his new campaign team member’s role.

“Everybody is going to help out in every way possible,” Ford said. “They want to come out to events, and they want to get votes. At the end of the day, that’s what this election is about, getting votes, putting my record out in front. And they know I have a proven track record.”

Ford was then asked about Johnson’s track record.

“I support Ben 100 percent,” said Ford, who made Olympic news last week for mistakenly voting against honoring Canadian Olympians and Paralympians from Sochi. “We’ve all made mistakes in life. I’ve supported him from day one, and that’s the bottom line.”
