Russian Olympic bobsled champ injured in attack

Russian bobsledder Aleksander Zubkov was injured Thursday in a confrontation involving attackers smashing a Mercedes-Benz he was given after winning two gold medals at the Sochi Olympics.

Unidentified attackers smashed with baseball bats the windshield and headlights of the car, a reward given to Russian Olympic medalists in Sochi, according to Russian reports citing the news agency ITAR-TASS, which reported police opened a criminal investigation.

“Maybe the attack was the result of someone ordering it,” Zubkov told ITAR-TASS, according to The Associated Press.

Zubkov suffered arm and wrist wounds but was expected to attend a Russian Olympic ball Friday night.
