Defending NCAA champion California and two-time winner Dartmouth reached the Collegiate Rugby Championship quarterfinals Saturday.
Cal was the most dominant of any of the 20 teams in action in Philadelphia over the first two days, going 3-0 and outscoring opponents by 93 points.
Dartmouth won its first two matches and tied its finale to finish second in its four-team pool (Kutztown won it on an overall point-differential tiebreaker). Michigan, Navy, UCLA, Penn State and Life University also advanced, in addition to Cal, Dartmouth and Kutztown.
The quarterfinals begin at 10:20 a.m. ET on Sunday. NBCSN will have coverage from 2-4, including the semifinals. NBC will pick it up from 4-6, including the championship match.
It’s possible that some of the players in the Collegiate Rugby Championship could be part of the first U.S. Olympic Rugby Sevens Team, should the U.S. qualify for the Rio 2016 Games.
