Tyler Clary showed prowess in every stroke by winning the 400m individual medley at the U.S. Swimming Championships last week. Then, he showed the crowd in Irvine, Calif., a different mastery.
Clary, the Olympic 200m backstroke champion, belly flopped into the competition pool before Saturday’s finals session. It’s become a signature move for the Charlotte-based swimmer who dreams of racing stock cars after Rio 2016.
His belly flops have been reported on since at least April 2011.
