Gabby Douglas, who hasn’t competed since the London Olympics, said her goal is to return to competition at the 2015 Secret Classic.
Douglas detailed her recent move from Iowa to Ohio in a USA Gymnastics interview at the P&G Championships in Pittsburgh, where she had hoped to compete for the first time in more than two years.
Those plans were scrapped in July after Douglas left her longtime coach, Liang Chow, for the second time since the London Games. She’s now training in Columbus, Ohio, and said earlier this month that she’s aiming for the 2015 World Championships.
“This is the place where I’m settling,” Douglas, adding that Columbus will be her training base through the 2016 Olympics, said Thursday. “It’s a perfect fit for me.”
Douglas still plans on attending National Team camps this fall and would be open to competing internationally before next summer’s Secret Classic if National Team coordinator Martha Karolyi desires, according to USA Gymnastics.
