Yannick Agnel is no longer training under Bob Bowman, deciding to leave Baltimore and return to France under a new coach.
Agnel, the 2012 Olympic and 2013 Worlds 200m freestyle champion, had joined Bowman’s training group last spring, a group that grew to re-include Michael Phelps last year.
But Agnel, 22, was disappointed with his results at the European Championships in August, according to L’Equipe, when he won bronze in the 200m free.
Agnel and Bowman left on good terms, according to the French newspaper, quoting Bowman.
The news came on the same day Australia’s most high-profile swimmer, James Magnussen, announced a split with his coach after finishing third behind countryman Cameron McEvoy and Nathan Adrian in the 100m free at the Pan Pacific Championships last month.
Also, Italy’s most decorated swimmer, Federica Pellegrini, left her French coach, it was reported Monday.
