Three-time skeleton Olympian Katie Uhlaender is taking the upcoming season off, according to her social media accounts.
Uhlaender needed left ankle surgery, according to The Associated Press.
Uhlaender, 30, nearly came from behind to win a first Olympic medal in Sochi. She was in fifth place after three of four runs and finished fourth, .04 behind Russian bronze medalist Yelena Nikitina.
Uhlaender won three individual World Championships medals — bronze in 2007, silver in 2008 and gold in 2012. She attempted to make the 2012 U.S. Olympic weightlifting team.
Uhlaender’s teammate at the last two Olympics, Sochi silver medalist Noelle Pikus-Pace, has retired.
