Simone Biles flew more than 8,000 miles from China back home to Houston on Monday. She may have been tired, but excitement awaited in the airport.
Other gymnasts from her gym held signs and cheered her arrival. Biles, who is 4 feet, 9 inches, carried a large backpack and five medals, her haul from the World Championships the past week.
Biles, 17, won four gold medals and one silver in Nanning for the greatest performance at an Olympics or a Worlds by a U.S. woman ever.
She told NBC’s Houston affiliate that she would take “maybe a day or two” off before returning to training. Biles flew to New York on Tuesday. She is a candidate for the Women’s Sports Foundation Sportswoman of the Year award to be announced Wednesday night.
