Olympic champion Adelina Sotnikova will not compete in the European Championships after tearing an ankle ligament in November, according to Russian reports.
Sotnikova, who hasn’t been in top-level international competition since winning gold in Sochi in February, said she’s taking training slowly and not ready to perform programs yet. Here’s an interview in Russian with Sotnikova.
In December, she was named an alternate for the Russian team for the European Championships, Jan. 29-31 in Stockholm, and it was reported she would have a test skate Jan. 15, after which a final decision on the European Championships would be made.
The Russian team for the European Championships includes the gold and silver medalists from the Russian Championships in December, Yelena Radionova and Elizaveta Tuktamysheva, as well as Anna Pogorilaya, who finished fourth at last season’s World Championships.
Sotnikova, 18, appears in serious doubt of being named to Russia’s three-woman team for the World Championships in March.
