Sochi gold medalist Justine Dufour-Lapointe beat Hannah Kearney in a matchup of the last two Olympic champions at the Visa Freestyle International dual moguls in Park City, Utah, on Saturday night.
Kearney, skiing at the Deer Valley course for the final time as she will retire after this season, was .01 faster than Dufour-Lapointe. But the Canadian Dufour-Lapointe impressed the judges to earn the overall victory.
“Unfortunately, my last run of the day was not my cleanest,” said Kearney, who finished a shockingly low 25th in regular moguls Friday and added that Saturday was the largest crowd she had competed in front of in her Deer Valley career. “Justine was pushing me.”
Sochi silver medalist Mikael Kingsbury won the men’s dual moguls final over American Dylan Walczyk.
The world’s best moguls skiers reconvene in Austria later this week for the World Championships.
