Best to anyone’s knowledge, Tiger Woods has been on hand for one of Lindsey Vonn‘s races since it became public they were a couple.
Woods stood with other spectators near the finish of a World Cup race in Val d’Isere, France, on Dec. 21, 2013. It was not a good day, as Vonn skied off the course in her final race before deciding on another knee surgery that would keep her out of the Sochi Olympics.
Woods will hope the next time he sees Vonn in competition will be a drastically different type of day to remember.
Vonn, after tying the women’s World Cup wins record in Italy on Sunday, said Woods is planning to attend some of her races at the World Championships in Vail/Beaver Creek, Colo., next month, according to The Associated Press.
”It’s tough to have two athletes competing at the same time, but he’s definitely going to make something work,” she said, according to the AP, adding that Woods watched Sunday’s race on the Internet in Florida at 5 a.m. with daughter Sam.
Vonn’s races at the World Championships are scheduled for Feb. 3 (super-G), Feb. 6 (downhill) and, possibly, Feb. 9 (super combined), Feb. 10 (team event) and Feb. 12 (giant slalom).
Woods is slated to play the PGA Tour event the weekend before the World Championships and the following week during Worlds at Torrey Pines in California.
The World Championships super-G will be on the Tuesday practice round day of Torrey Pines week, and the downhill will run during the second round of Torrey Pines.
The following week, the PGA Tour heads to Pebble Beach, where Woods has not played since 2012. However, it’s possible Vonn might not race at Worlds that week.
Vonn has said she is unlikely to race slalom again, which casts doubt over whether she would race the super combined at Worlds, given that event is a combination of one downhill run and one slalom run.
Vonn also did not race in the team event at the 2011 World Championships, pulling out of the competition after the downhill and super-G due to a previous concussion. The team event was in giant slalom format.
Vonn hasn’t raced a giant slalom since before her crash at the 2013 World Championships, which casts doubt that she will be in that event at Worlds.
