Will Ashley Wagner reclaim her U.S. title?
Wagner, the 2012 and 2013 U.S. champion, takes a 5.02-point lead into the U.S. Championships women’s free skate in Greensboro, N.C., on Saturday night. At 23, she can become the oldest U.S. women’s champion since Michelle Kwan in 2005 and the first woman since Kwan to win at least three U.S. titles.
Wagner’s Olympic teammates, Gracie Gold and Polina Edmunds, want to deny that history. Gold is in second place, followed by Edmunds another .98 behind.
Three U.S. women will be selected for March’s World Championships after the U.S. Championships, so the fight to make the podium is intriguing as well.
NBC and NBC Sports Live Extra will have three hours of coverage from the Greensboro Coliseum.
Full standings and start orders can be found here.
NBC and Live Extra will have further coverage of the men’s free skate Sunday at 4 p.m. ET.
