Rita Jeptoo, the two-time reigning Boston and Chicago Marathon winner, was banned two years by Athletics Kenya on Friday following testing positive for a banned substance in September.
Jeptoo, 33, tested positive for EPO in an out-of-competition sample in Kenya on Sept. 25, before she won her second straight Chicago Marathon on Oct. 12. She hasn’t been stripped of that Chicago title.
Jeptoo denied taking any drugs in a fall meeting with Athletics Kenya, the federation’s vice president told Agence France-Presse.
The two-year ban would rule her out of the 2016 Olympics. Jeptoo has never competed in an Olympics.
