Ted Ligety has serious work ahead if he’s to repeat as World champion in the super combined, or even win any medal, with the slalom run starting at 4:15 p.m. ET and NBC and NBC Sports Live Extra coverage at 4:30 p.m ET.
Ligety goes into the slalom 3.03 seconds behind Norwegian leader Kjetil Jansrud, who posted the fastest downhill run in the morning.
Other medal favorites Alexis Pinturault of France and Carlo Janka of Switzerland are .39 and 1.86 seconds ahead of Ligety, respectively.
Then there’s Austrian Marcel Hirscher, the best slalom skier in the field, who is 3.16 back of Jansrud. Don’t count him out.
The World Championships continue through next Sunday. The next race is the women’s super combined featuring Lindsey Vonn on Monday.
