A Venezuelan man with muscular dystrophy was the final participant to cross the finish line of the Boston Marathon around 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday, according to Boston reports, about 20 hours after he set out on the 26.2-mile course.
Maickel Melamed, 39, made it to Boylston Street after weathering a thunderstorm in the final few miles. Many people, from volunteers to media, were with him (video of his finish here).
“The rain, the distance, the cold I mean everything today was overcome because when we are a team, the human creativity, the human magic appears every time,” Melamed told reporters after finishing.
Melamed previously participated in the Berlin, Chicago, New York City and Tokyo Marathons, according to reports.
Melamed’s race was documented on his Twitter page, which has nearly 500,000 followers.
