Julia Mancuso hit her head on a reef, needing 15 staples among her hair, according to a post on the four-time U.S. Olympic Alpine skiing medalist’s Instagram account.
Mancuso, 31 and a four-time Olympian, spent time in Fiji this month after cutting her 2014-15 season short due to right hip pain and skipping the World Cup Finals in March.
She plans on competing through the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Games, which would be her fifth. No U.S. woman previously competed in five Winter Games.

Sometimes things don't go quite as planned… But there's always a lesson to be learned and thanks to be given. A few weeks ago I hit my head on the reef, it was scary, but I was lucky. I'm all healed up now! 10 days and 15 staples. It was a healthy reminder of how blessed I am and to be able to help other athletes that turned out a little less lucky. Thanks to @hi5sfoundation for helping out all those athletes who turned out needing a lot more then staples. #luckygirl #reefkiss
