Sepp Blatter, still an IOC member, to skip meeting to vote on 2022 Winter Olympic host

FIFA president Sepp Blatter will not be present at an International Olympic Committee meeting in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, next week, according to The Associated Press, when the 2022 Winter Olympic host city will be decided in an IOC members vote.

Either Almaty, Kazakhstan, or Beijing will host the 2022 Winter Olympics after a July 31 vote.

Blatter is an IOC member as long as he is FIFA’s president, or until he reaches the IOC member age limit of 80.

The Swiss announced June 2 he would step down as FIFA’s president. On Monday, it was announced that FIFA’s presidential election would be Feb. 26, two weeks before Blatter turns 80.

Blatter has cut back on travel during an investigation into FIFA corruption. He did not attend the Women’s World Cup final July 5 in Vancouver.
