Olympic champion Adelina Sotnikova will return to top-level international figure skating competition this fall, as she was added to the field for November’s Rostelecom Cup, the Russian stop on the Grand Prix series.
Sotnikova, 19, hasn’t skated outside of smaller Russian events since she became the first woman to win an Olympic singles figure skating title without any prior Olympic or World Championships medals in Sochi.
She competed once last fall in a small Russian event before ending her season early due to an ankle injury.
Her debut this season is set in Samara, Russia, this week, according to Russian media reports last month.
At the Rostelecom Cup, Sotnikova is slated to face a field including reigning World bronze medalist Yelena Radionova of Russia and U.S. Olympian Polina Edmunds from Nov. 20-22.
