The Americans, winners of the last three Olympic titles and the 2015 Women’s World Cup, will reach their sixth straight Olympics if they beat Trinidad and Tobago in Houston, starting at 8:30 p.m. ET.
If Trinidad and Tobago, ranked No. 49 in the world, pulls off an upset, the U.S. will not go to Rio. The nations are playing in the CONCACAF Olympic qualifying tournament semifinals.
The U.S. won its three group-stage matches in Texas by a combined 16-0.
Trinidad and Tobago beat Guatemala 2-1 and Guyana 5-1, with a 6-0 loss to Olympic bronze medalist Canada in between.
The U.S. roster for Olympic qualifying includes 13 of the 23 players from the World Cup, led by Olympic champions Carli Lloyd, Alex Morgan and Hope Solo.
