Olympic snowboard slopestyle bronze medalist Mark McMorris suffered a broken femur in a crash at an Air and Style big air event in Los Angeles on Sunday night.
“I’m disappointed to have to sit out for some time, but I am looking forward to getting back on snow as soon as possible,” McMorris, set to undergo surgery Monday, said in a press release.
McMorris, 22, has won four of the last five Winter X Games slopestyle titles and would have been heavily favored in Sochi had he not broken a rib at the X Games, 12 days before his Olympic competition.
McMorris is also strong in big air, which makes its Olympic debut at Pyeongchang 2018.
McMorris won Winter X Games big air last year and finished second to countryman Max Parrot this year.
