Without Paul, the U.S. Olympic men’s basketball team is left with one point guard with Olympic experience — Russell Westbrook.
The third point guard on the 2012 Olympic team — two-time Olympian Deron Williams — was not among USA Basketball’s list of 30 finalists announced Jan. 18.

Paul started all eight games at the 2012 Olympics, averaging the second-most minutes per game at 25.8 on Team USA (Kevin Durant, 26).
With Paul out and neither Kobe Bryant nor Tyson Chandler among the finalists, three of the five 2012 U.S. Olympic starters are set to miss Rio. The two starters left in the finalist pool are LeBron James and Kevin Durant.
The U.S. Olympic men’s basketball team of 12 players is expected to be named in late June.
