John Smith joins NBC Olympics as wrestling analyst

Two-time Olympic champion John Smith will join NBC Olympics as an analyst for this weekend’s U.S. Olympic wrestling trials and the Rio Games in August.

Smith, who took 62kg freestyle gold in 1988 and 1992, is currently the head coach at Oklahoma State.

He will team with Jason Knapp for NBCSN and NBC Sports Live Extra‘s coverage of the Olympic trials on Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday (all times Eastern)
10 a.m.-3:30 p.m. — NBC Sports Live Extra (LIVE early rounds on four mats)
7-9:30 p.m. — NBCSN and NBC Sports Live Extra (LIVE championship rounds)

Sunday (all times Eastern)
10 a.m.-3:30 p.m. — NBC Sports Live Extra (LIVE early rounds on four mats)
7-10 p.m. — NBC Sports Live Extra (LIVE championship rounds)
10:30 p.m.-1 a.m. — NBCSN (championship rounds)

Smith owns a record six global titles (including four World Championships) for a U.S. wrestler.

London Olympic champion Jordan Burroughs has made it a goal of catching and surpassing Smith’s record.

Burroughs, 27, is at four global titles, with World Championships in 2011, 2013 and 2015. Smith won the last of his six straight global titles in 1992 at age 26.
