Track and field journalist Cathal Dennehy discussed his now-viral call of an Irish University Championships women’s 4x400m relay on The Dan Patrick Show on Wednesday.
Dennehy went crazy as a runner came from more than 50 meters behind on the anchor leg for a narrow victory. Dennehy likened it to coming “from the depths of hell.”
“People actually ask me, did you have that written down, did you see it somewhere,” Dennehy said. “To be honest, I have no idea where I even pulled that turn of phrase from. It made no sense.”
Would he use “from the depths of hell” again?
“No, I think these things are best retired after one use,” Dennehy said. “Just leave it there.”

In the below video, Dennehy comes on the show to break it down.
