Gymnast Maggie Nichols said she is about 97 percent healthy going into this weekend’s P&G Championships, her first meet since suffering a torn meniscus in training about three months ago.

Nichols said Wednesday that she is likely to compete on two of four events in St. Louis on Friday and Sunday — balance beam and uneven bars — but there was a chance she could expand.

Nichols had a breakout at this meet last year, taking all-around silver behind Simone Biles.

At the 2015 World Championships, she was the only U.S. gymnast to compete on all four events in the team final and later earned a bronze medal on floor exercise.

Those meets cemented Nichols as a favorite for the five-woman Olympic team, which will be named after the Olympic Trials on July 10 in San Jose, Calif.

Now, she has P&Gs and Trials to prove that she still belongs.

“Get that extra gear and show everyone that I’m very consistent and that I can help Team USA,” she said.
