Anna Chicherova, banned Olympic high jump champ, not on Russian appeals list for Rio

Anna Chicherova, the 2012 Olympic high jump champion provisionally banned for a recent positive doping retest of a 2008 sample, is not among the 68 athletes Russian officials are appealing on behalf of to be reinstated for the Rio Games.

Russian Olympic Committee legal head Alexandra Brilliantova said Chicherova was automatically excluded from the list after it was announced Friday she was provisionally banned while awaiting the results of her B sample retest, according to Russian news agency TASS.

The Russian athletes’ appeal for Rio will be heard July 19 by the Court of Arbitration for Sport, with a decision by July 21,

Chicherova, among other Russian high jumpers, would be a medal contender if reinstated for Rio, along with Chaunté Lowe and Vashti Cunningham, who are going to Rio after finishing one-two at the U.S. Olympic Trials on Sunday.
