Bob Costas will host a one-hour Rio Olympic preview special on NBC a day before the Opening Ceremony. The Aug. 4 show will air live from Brazil at 8 p.m. ET and feature athletes such as Michael Phelps, Katie Ledecky, Kerri Walsh Jennings, Usain Bolt, and the U.S. women’s gymnastics team.
Viewers will be brought up to speed on all topics related to the 2016 Games, as NBC Olympics correspondents and analysts will join Costas to add insight.
“At the outset of every Olympics, there is always excitement about the athletes taking center stage and questions about the host city’s readiness,” said Jim Bell, Executive Producer, NBC Olympics. “This hour will allow us to address both topics, and more, as Rio prepares to welcome the world to the first Olympic Games ever held in South America.”
It kicks off an unparalleled month for the networks and digital platforms of NBCUniversal, which will air a record 6,755 hours of programming to cover the Rio Games. Competition begins Aug. 3 with women’s soccer on NBCSN and USA Network, and the Closing Ceremony concludes the Games on Aug. 21.
