After falling 12-7 to Fiji in its women’s sevens opener, the U.S. took a huge halftime lead before cruising to a 48-0 win against Colombia on Saturday evening.
Earlier, Colombia fell to group and tournament favorites Australia by a 53-0 score.
Team USA now will face Australia on Sunday morning. Fiji plays Australia at 6:30 p.m. ET Saturday.
The top two from the group advance to the quarterfinals on Sunday afternoon, while the top two of three third-place teams will also advance to the bracket.
Even a loss to Australia could put the Yanks into the knockout rounds. With both Group C contenders for third boasting poor point differentials, the U.S. may advance by simply keeping it close with Australia.
