On Monday there will be competitions in the canoe and kayak competitions, with the men’s canoe double slalom and women’s kayak single heats taking place. Germany’s tandem of Franz Anton and Jan Benzien are viewed by many as the favorites to win gold in the men’s canoe double slalom, and Jonas Kaspar and Mark Sindler of the Czech Republic should be in the mix as well. Americans Casey Eichfeld and Devin McEwan are also viewed as contenders for a medal.
In the women’s kayak single, reigning world champion Jessica Fox of Australia will look to win a gold medal after getting silver in London four years ago. Also in the competition is American Ashlee Nee, who’s competing in her third Olympic Games.

The sailing competitions get going Monday, with the men’s RS:X and women’s Laser Radial events on the schedule. Among those competing are gold medal favorite Dorian van Rijsselberge of the Netherlands in the men’s RS:X, with Great Britain’s Nick Dempsey and Pedro Pascual of the United States among those looking to win medals as well. In the women’s laser radial, Marit Bouwmeester of the Netherlands, Belgium’s Evi Van Acker and Paige Railey of the United States are part of the field.

Medals in two shooting competitions will be handed out Monday, with the men’s 10 meter air rifle and trap disciplines being contested. Among those competing in the air rifle competition are Lucas Kozeniesky and Daniel Lowe of the United States. No Americans are competing in the men’s trap competition, but all three medalists from London are in the field led by gold medalists Giovanni Cernogoraz of Croatia.
